Think fit! website

A Think fit! workplace website www.bhf.org.uk/thinkfit has been developed to accompany the pack and links from the main BHF website.  The site contains downloadable items from the pack and information on workplace health, physical activity in the workplace and the national workplace health programme; Well @ Work. • In Jan 2006, the Think fit! microsite accounted for 60% of total visits to www.bhf.org.uk
  • In 7 months since it’s launch the Think fit! microsite had 1,449,036 unique visitors
  • Office Olympics has been nominated for a New media industry award

Think fit! seminars

A series of seminars have been conducted to promote and disseminate the Think Fit! Pack and to raise the profile of workplace health. The seminars were held throughout the UK in 2006 and 2007 and gave representatives from a wide range of public and private sector organisations a chance to familiarise themselves with the pack and explore how to apply it to the workplace setting. Each seminar provided examples of successful workplace activity programmes in the locality to inspire, motivate and inform delegates.

Legal & General and BHF Think Fit! Challenge

Legal & General has supported the British Heart Foundation (BHF) since 2002, sponsoring a range of health and lifestyle publications including the Think Fit! pack. The Think Fit! Challenge has been designed to encourage more companies to use this pack. The Challenge is based on the Heart Points Challenge in the Think fit! Be active employee booklet included in the Think fit! pack. The challenge started in June 2006 and ran for a period of 8 weeks. The winning company was announced at a recent awards ceremony.

Proctor & Gamble Technical Centres Limited were announced as the first Legal & General and British Heart Foundation 'Healthy Employer of the Year,' at the special awards ceremony held 13th September 2006.

Their Think Fit! programme divided their 340 employees into 8 teams representing different countries competing in the World Cup. Activities these teams competed in included five-a-side football, river racing and archery. The range of activities offered allowed employees with different levels of physical ability to join in.

As well as a trophy, Proctor & Gamble Technical Centres Limited received vouchers to the value of £3,000 to purchase exercise equipment for employees to continue to improve their fitness.

Everyday Sport in Government

The Everyday Sport in Government initiative was established in April 2005 to provide a consultation service to Government departments and support them in encouraging staff to become more active in and around the workplace. The service has been delivered by a partnership between Sport England and the British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity and Health.

The project has provided three Government departments with tailored support including identifying a physical activity champion, writing a workplace physical activity policy, carrying out a physical activity audit, needs assessment and informal staff consultations, and delivering training to champions. In addition to tailored face-to-face contact a number of resources have been produced including a series of motivational postcards, a desk calendar detailing sports and health events through out the year and website to hold all the materials produced and make them widely available.

The project has now come to an end but throughout the project many lessons have been learned from working with the Government departments. A final report has been written and a series of key recommendations have been made, at both the strategic and practical level, to promote effective practice into the future. The resources that have been produced will continue to be distributed to share learning and encourage all Government departments to promote physical activity within the workplace.  For further information and to access all the resources please visit: www.sportengland.org/index/get_active/eds_in_government.htm
