Professor Fiona Bull
Co-Director - Research
Professor Fiona Bull holds a faculty position as Reader in Physical Activity and Health in the School of Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University and is Co Director of the BHF National Centre on Physical Activity and Health. Her qualifications include a PhD in Physical Activity and Public Health from the University of Western Australia, a MSc in Sport Science from Loughborough University and a BEd (Hons) from St Lukes College, Exeter University.
Prior to joining Loughborough University in 2004, Prof. Bull has worked at the U.S. Public Health Service in the Department of Health and Social Security at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia. She also has worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva and in both the School of Public Health and the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science at the University of Western Australia.
Professor Bull’s work areas include programme evaluation, intervention research, the health benefits of physical activity, measurement of physical activity and global and national policy on physical activity. She is involved in a large number of international projects including work on measurement comparability and policy development. Prof. Bull also leads the coordination of the Global Alliance on Physical Activtiy (GAPA) – www.globalpa.org.uk. Current projects include Principle Investigator of the evaluation of Well@Work, co- Investigator of 5-year prospective study on how the built and open space environment can influence levels of physical activity; co- Investigator NICE Physical Activity Collaborating Centre undertaking systematic reviews of interventions on physical activity and the environment; and lead on the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire research project.
