Loughborough Flames: Lighting the Way to London and Beyond
The BHF National Centre for Physical Activity and Health recently joined together with Loughborough College to pilot a unique and innovative sport leadership project across the local area. Inspired and driven by 2012, the project aimed to educate young people about the history and culture of the Olympic Games, whilst motivating them to be more physically active.
Loughborough College Sports Leaders received Active Clubs training from BHFNC staff, which they then used to plan and deliver an enjoyable Olympic themed sport and health programme in 4 local primary schools across a six week period. To celebrate the projects success, the leaders organised a mini Olympic festival complete with its own Opening and Closing ceremony, which was enjoyed by over 150 primary school children. Ex Olympian Steve Cram and our very own ‘Hearty’ were also present at the event to cheer the children on and give out certificates.
