JOIN NOWHealthy lives, healthy people: our strategy for public health in England
This White Paper sets out the Government’s long-term vision for the future of public health in England. The aim is to create a ‘wellness’ service (Public Health England) and to strengthen both national and local leadership.
Key implications for physical activity within the White Paper include:
Older adults
“We will make active ageing the norm rather than the exception, for example by building more Lifetime Homes, protecting green spaces and launching physical activity initiatives, including £135 million Lottery investment in a Mass Participation and Community Sport legacy programme and a volunteer led walks programme.”
Families
“Families will be supported to make informed choices about their diet and their levels of physical activity, including through updated guidelines on physical activity.”
Business
“We will work collaboratively with business and the voluntary sector through the Public Health Responsibility Deal. It will also develop the Change4Life campaign, for example through the ‘Great Swapathon’, £250 million of partner-funded vouchers to make healthy lifestyle choices easier.”
Active travel
“Active travel and physical activity need to become the norm in communities. The Department of Health will support local areas by providing good evidence on how to make regular physical activity and health food choices easier for their populations.”
